Fruit and Vegetables

In the vegetable area we have three large beds in which we grow a variety of crops.  What we need for the Country Market are small quantities of many things.  We avoid the use of pesticides, using barrier methods to keep pests at bay.  We also avoid growing crops that are magnets for pests e.g. we don't grow summer brassicas because it is so hard to keep the caterpillars off them.

We grow a lot of fruit, both hard fruit like apples, and soft fruit like raspberries & strawberries.  In the greenhouse we grow salad greens in the winter (these thrive without heat) and tomatoes, peppers and aubergines in the summer.  The picture shows how we start these in the house, ready to move out to the greenhouse when the temperatures rise.
