Snowdrops

Snowdrops are the first flowers of spring. They promise spring when really it is still winter. Even in winter there are some days mild enough for the bees to forage and when they get the opportunity they love snowdrop flowers.

In the winter months we get the mildest weather when the winds are westerly. This side of the spinney faces south east so it gets plenty of sun yet is sheltered from winds from the west.  This makes it an ideal foraging area for winter bees. We are working on extending the area of snowdrops.  Eventually we would like them to be plentiful from the top to the bottom of that side of the spinney.
